Straight-through processing
STP which is short Straight-through processing, refers to the direct transmission of electronically recorded data or messages between two or more !application systems without !media breaks. The concept of elec- tronic data interchange (!EDI) dates back to the 1970s and leads to an increase in processing speed as well as a reduction in manual (human) errors. According to the goals of !electronic business, STP is an essential prerequisite for integrated and cross-company processes. Sometimes (e.g., in the insurance industry) the term dark processing is also used for STP, since with a complete STP the execution is completely automated or not visible.
